Official ‘Downton Abbey’ concert announced for 2019 – live at Highclere Castle!

Well, here’s a surprising early Christmas present for Downton Abbey fans!

The Downton movie finished filming earlier this month, but we’ve just found out that won’t be the only exciting event for fans to look forward to in 2019.

The show’s makers are staging a musical spectacular next summer in the grounds of Highclere Castle, where the period drama series is filmed in England.

Hosted by actor Jim Carter, in character as Mr Carson, Music from Downton Abbey will take place on Saturday 22nd June 2019.

The concert is described as “an official celebration of the iconic series” and “a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans both old and new to experience at Highclere Castle, the home of Downton Abbey.”

Aided by “a rich collection of clips and montages on high definition screens from the series to illustrate the lives, loves and losses from across all six seasons,” Mr Carson will look back over his time at Downton Abbey and remember the most significant events that took place in the house.

He’ll be accompanied by The Chamber Orchestra of London playing songs from the Downton soundtrack, with the show’s original composer, John Lunn, on piano.

Jim Carter commented: “Music is, subtly, a very big part of Downton Abbey, from that very recognisable opening theme onwards. There was a fair bit of live music in the piece – a jazz band, bands at balls and parties – and this will bring it to the forefront.”

He added: “It will be a nice link between the series finishing and the film opening in September, and it will hopefully get people excited for the film.”

Tickets for the concert go on general sale this Friday at 9am GMT and you can sign up for pre-sale access now at downtonabbeytheconcert.com.

The Downton Abbey movie arrives in cinemas next year on Friday 13th September in the UK and on Friday 20th September in the USA.
