‘Outlander’ preview: First pic and brand new plot details for Season 5

Filming is now underway on new episodes of Outlander and we have our first sneak peek.

Season 5 began production in Scotland earlier this month.

Based on the fifth book in author Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, The Fiery Cross, the next season will comprise of 12 episodes.

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are back as Claire and Jamie, with Starz boss Chris Albrecht promising “new challenges, adversaries and adventures” ahead for the Frasers.

To celebrate the start of filming, Balfe has posted a lovely photo of the pair on Instagram.

Starz’s official story synopsis for the new season reads: “Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task – and protecting it proves even more difficult – particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina during a period of dramatic sociopolitical upheaval.

“As Claire knows all too well, friends, neighbours and countrymen are unwittingly marching towards Revolution, with members of the elite ruling classes struggling to stifle the alarming undercurrent of unrest triggered by the Regulator Movement.

“Against this backdrop, which soon heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie are forced to ask themselves just how far they are willing to go to protect their home, and praying there will be no reason to light the fiery cross, an ancient Scottish call to arms.”

Season 5 is expected to premiere in early 2020, with filming due to take around 8 months.

The new episodes will again debut in the UK on Amazon Prime Video the day after their broadcast on Starz in the USA.

Season 4 concluded on Starz in January, with two more seasons of Outlander already confirmed.

Season 4 is available on DVD on Amazon.
