‘Paddington in Peru’ officially confirms release date at last!

We’ve finally got a release date for the next Paddington movie!

The sequel follows 2014’s original Paddington film and 2017’s even more beloved sequel, both inspired by the classic Paddington Bear stories by Michael Bond.

The two films have grossed more than $500 million at the box office combined, so of course a third instalment in the franchise was always going to happen.

Fortunately, though, the producers have taken their time with the follow-up rather than rushing it into cinemas just to make a quick buck.

With filming in London, Peru and Colombia now completed, we’ve got an official release date for Paddington in Peru.

Production company StudioCanal revealed today – via the lovely little video below – on that Paddington will be back in UK cinemas on 8 November 2024.

American audiences are going to have to wait a bit longer, however, with the movie’s US release set for 17 January 2025.

Reprising their roles from the first two films will be Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) as Henry Brown, Julie Walters (Billy Elliot) as Mrs Bird, and Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge) as Samuel Gruber, with young actors Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin once again playing siblings Judy and Jonathan.

Sally Hawkins from The Lost King won’t be back return as Mrs Brown though, with Emily Mortimer (Mary Poppins Returns) taking over the role.

Joining the Paddington in Peru ensemble are Olivia Colman (The Favourite) as a “guitar-playing nun who runs the home for retired bears” – of course! – and Antonio Banderas (Spy Kids).

West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler had previously been announced as part of the cast, but she’s now been replaced by Spanish newcomer Carla Tous due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

“It’s been a joy and an honor to shoot Paddington in Peru with such a wonderful and talented cast and crew,” commented director Dougal Wilson.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have been blessed with such a lovely group of people, many of whom have returned to the world of this beloved bear,” he added. “We are also delighted to have welcomed Emily, Olivia, Antonio and Carla to the Paddington family.”

In the meantime, the director of the first two Paddington movies is back this Christmas with Wonka!

Here’s the brand new trailer:

Loosely drawn from Roald Dahl’s much-loved children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the upcoming family film stars Timothée Chalamet from The King and Dune as the young Willy Wonka.

The wonderful cast of British actors also features Downton Abbey star Jim Carter – aka Mr Carson – alongside Olivia Colman (The Crown), Sally Hawkins (The Lost King), Matt Lucas (Doctor Who), and Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean).

Wonka is set for release this December in cinemas worldwide and we can’t wait!

Paddington is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
