Watch the trailer for ‘Downton’ star Lily James’s new adaptation of ‘Rebecca’
Netfix has released the first trailer for its new version of Rebecca.
Based on Daphne du Maurier’s classic romantic Gothic thriller, the movie’s script is written by Jane Goldman, who adapted 2012’s The Woman in Black.
Rebecca was first published in 1938 and the story was previously adapted by Alfred Hitchcock for his 1940 movie, starring Sir Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.
Netflix’s new adaptation stars Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name) and Lily James (Downton Abbey) as aristocratic widower Maxim de Winter and his new wife.

They’re joined by Kristin Scott Thomas (Four Weddings and a Funeral) as Mrs Danvers.
The cast also includes Keeley Hawes (The Durrells), Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Sam Riley (SS-GB), and Ben Crompton (Game of Thrones).
Rebecca premieres exclusively on Netflix worldwide on Wednesday 21st October.

The official synopsis reads: “After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with handsome widower Maxim de Winter, a newly married young woman arrives at Manderley, her new husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast.
“Naive and inexperienced, she begins to settle into the trappings of her new life, but finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim’s first wife, the elegant and urbane Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive by Manderley’s sinister housekeeper Mrs Danvers.”
Lily James is currently filming a new adaptation of The Pursuit of Love for the BBC.
