Royal Albert Hall welcomes Superman with live orchestra this summer
London’s Royal Albert Hall re-opens its doors soon as the UK’s lockdown rules are finally lifted.
And one of this summer’s big names will be none other than Superman himself!
Continuing the Royal Albert Hall’s hugely popular Films in Concert series, 1978’s classic Superman movie will be played in high-definition on the big screen.
It’ll be accompanied by John Williams’ iconic original score, performed live by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
Originally set to take place last year, Superman in Concert is now scheduled for Friday 16th July at 7.30pm and tickets are on sale now.
Directed by Richard Donner, and showcasing a young Christopher Reeve, Superman features a star-studded cast including Margot Kidder as intrepid reporter Lois Lane, Gene Hackman as the villainous Lex Luthor, and the inimitable Marlon Brando as Jor-El.
Donner’s beloved film adaptation relays the inspiring origins of Superman, from his narrow escape as an infant from the doomed planet Krypton, to his formative years on a farm in Smallville, Kansas, and finally to his arrival in Metropolis, where he leads dual lives as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent and as the mythical ‘Man of Steel’.
Superman is rated PG, and the approximate running time will be 141 minutes, plus a 25 minute interval.
The movie will be shown with full original dialogue, which will also be subtitled.
The Royal Albert Hall will re-open on Saturday 29th May with a family concert, Albert’s Band: Back with a Bang, followed by the Messiah with the Royal Choral Society (Sunday 30th May), A Country Night in Nashville (Tuesday 1st June), and the British Ballet Charity Gala (Thursday 3rd June), hosted by Darcey Bussell. Under government guidelines, 1,000 tickets will be available for each of the concerts, 20 per cent of the Hall’s usual capacity.
Full capacity events are then scheduled to resume on Tuesday 6th July with James Blunt, followed by Carmina Burana (Wed 7 July), and Fauré’s Requiem from Scratch (Sun 11 Jul).
