There’s good news in store for Jane Austen fans, with a new screen adaptation of Sense and Sensibility arriving in cinemas soon.
Jane Austen’s much-loved novel is being brought to life once again, with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles leading the cast as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The film boasts a great cast, including Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay and Fiona Shaw.
Directed by Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean), the new adaptation is written by novelist Diana Reid and produced by Working Title and Focus Features.

What is Sense and Sensibility about?
First published in 1811, Sense and Sensibility follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood after the death of their father leaves the family facing financial difficulties.
Forced to leave their family home on an estate in Sussex, the Dashwoods have to begin again in a more modest home in Devon, all while navigating love, money, family expectations and the strict social rules of Regency-era England.
Elinor represents the “sense” in the title. She is measured, practical and guided by duty — while Marianne embodies “sensibility”, approaching life with passion and romantic idealism. Their clashing attitudes towards love lead both sisters towards heartbreak before they finally discover where their real happiness lies.
This latest adaptation promises to give Austen fans a fresh take on the classic story, while retaining the themes of love, family and social expectations that have made the novel so enduring.
