TV’s sexiest British period drama star EVER revealed – as voted by you!

There are many reasons we all love watching British period dramas on television.

You have the gripping stories, the heartwarming romances, the stunning costumes, the lavish locations

Oh, and – yeah, we’ll admit it – the gorgeous leading men.

But which male British period drama TV star is the sexiest of all time?

Earlier this year, BritishPeriodDramas.com asked viewers to vote for their favourites from a shortlist of 25 actors.

Just missing out on the four top spots to reach the semi-final were Richard Armitage in North & South, Sean Bean in Sharpe, James Norton in Grantchester, Richard Madden in Game of Thrones, Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders, Alexander Dreymon in The Last Kingdom, and Tom Hughes in Victoria.

With 113,057 votes counted, the semi-final then saw Colin Firth (Mr. Darcy in Pride & Prejudice) and Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey) confidently beaten off by Sam Heughan (Jamie MacKenzie Fraser in Outlander) and Aidan Turner (Ross Poldark in Poldark).

And then there were two!

As our grand contest reached its ultimate stage, more than 150 thousand fans voted for their favourite in the final over the past few months.

The poll closed at midnight last night and we can now reveal that TV’s sexiest British period drama star ever is officially…

Sam Heughan!

The 39-year-old Scottish actor shot to fame as Jamie in Outlander in 2014, following roles in Midsomer Murders, Any Human Heart and Rebus.

He recently wrapped filming on the fifth season of Starz’s historical time travel drama series, which is set to premiere in February next year.

Outlander author Diana Gabaldon previously praised the star’s performance, saying: “That man is a Scot to the bone and Jamie Fraser to the heart.”

Heughan received an incredible 110,040 votes in the final of our exclusive year-long search, winning with 73.34% of the votes cast.

Poldark star Aidan Turner received a still very impressive 39,994 votes (26.66%).
