‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ update: Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law return in 2021!

The long-awaited third Sherlock Holmes movie is finally moving forward.

A decade after the previous instalment, 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Robert Downey Jr. will be back as the titular Great Detective.

Sherlock Holmes 3 was officially announced last year, with a release set for Christmas Day 2020, but this date has now been put back to 22nd December 2021.

Alongside Avengers star Downey Jr. as Holmes, British actor Jude Law will also return as Doctor Watson.

Guy Ritchie (Aladdin, The Man From UNCLE) directed the first two films in the Sherlock Holmes franchise, but he won’t be helming the next adventure.

Dexter Fletcher, who made this year’s hit Elton John musical Rocketman and took over as director on Bohemian Rhapsody, will be directing Sherlock Holmes 3 instead of Ritchie.
