The bad news that ‘Poldark’ fans have been dreading is true
Following months of rumours, the writer of Poldark has confirmed fans’ fears.
Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays Ross Poldark’s wife Demelza, revealed in May that the hit Cornish period drama series will return for a fifth season in 2019.
However, co-star Aidan Turner fuelled speculation that Season 5 would be the show’s last, commenting: “…things naturally do come to an end and I think we’ve done really well with Winston [Graham]’s books and I hope he’d be really proud. But it’s nice when things naturally come to an end, you don’t want things to go on really long.”
Now writer Debbie Horsfield has revealed that the next season will indeed be the show’s last, saying: “…I have started writing it. [But] it is the final series as far as we are concerned.”
The Radio Times cites “senior BBC sources” as verifying that the rumours are true.
Horsfield has also been discussing “several new projects I’m working on …. following our five-year collaboration on Poldark…”
Poldark launched on BBC One in March 2015 and the latest season concluded in the UK last month.
The first three seasons of Poldark are available to buy on DVD now.
The fourth season of Poldark will premiere in the US at 9/8c on Sunday 30 September on Masterpiece on PBS.
