‘The Crown’ Season 3 pics: First look at ‘The Durrells’ star as Prince Charles

The Crown fans have been treated to a sneak peek at the new season.

Netflix’s award-winning period drama tells the story of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

The third season of The Crown began filming last summer and will see the show’s entire cast being replaced by older actors as the story moves further into the second half of the 20th Century.

Joining The Favourite star Olivia Colman as the new Elizabeth will be Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles.

The 28-year-old English actor will be familiar to British period drama viewers as Larry in The Durrells.

The final season of The Durrells is currently airing on Sunday nights on ITV.

O’Connor also recently appeared as Marius in the BBC’s six-part adaptation of Les Misérables.

On-set photos have appeared online featuring Olivia Colman and Josh O’Connor filming the moment Charles is formally made the Prince of Wales.

The ceremony took place in 1969 in real life.

Joining O’Connor in the new episodes will be Emerald Fennell, best known as Patsy in Call the Midwife, as Charles’ future wife Camilla.

Royal Family fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Prince William and Prince Harry in the series, however, as the young princes aren’t expect to appear until the fifth season.

We wonder if writer Peter Morgan will include some of William’s lesser-known interests when the Duke of Cambridge starts featuring in the show’s story lines – for instance, the Prince’s fondness for bingo!

One of many surprising celebrity bingo players, William popped along to a bingo club near Sandhurst back in 2006 on a break from his army training.

A player at the club commented at the time: “He was very friendly, talking and joking with people. When someone asked him to sign the back of their bingo card, he borrowed a pen from the girl behind the bar and signed a couple of cards.”

It was recently confirmed who will be playing Princess Diana in The Crown.

Season 3 will premiere on Netflix around the world this autumn and Season 4 is set to begin filming later this year.

This week ITV announced details of a new series celebrating Prince Charles.

The Crown is available to buy on DVD on Amazon.
