‘The Crown’ star takes over Lisbeth Salander role in ‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ sequel

It’s been confirmed that Claire Foy will lead the cast of the movie adaptation of The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

The sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was published in 2015, but the novel was not written by Millennium series creator Stieg Larsson, who died in 2004.

Belatedly following Daniel Craig’s 2011 movie, The Crown star Claire Foy will take over the role of Swedish computer hacker Lisbeth Salander from American actress Rooney Mara in the new film.

With a screenplay by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, the movie begins filming in Berlin and Stockholm in January.

Director Fede Alvarez commented: “I couldn’t be more thrilled about Claire taking the reins of the iconic Lisbeth Salander. Claire is an incredible, rare talent who will inject a new and exciting life into Lisbeth. I can’t wait to bring this new story to a worldwide audience, with Claire Foy at its center.”

The Girl in the Spider’s Web will be released in cinemas in October 2018.
