The director of the ‘Downton Abbey’ movie has been announced
It was confirmed last week that the Downton movie is definitely happening – and now we know who’ll be directing it.
The long-awaited film finally begins shooting this summer, helmed by British director Brian Percival.
The Liverpool-born filmmaker previously directed a number of Downton Abbey episodes, including the pilot in 2010, so he certainly knows the show well and already has an established relationship with the cast.
His other credits include TV adaptations of North & South, The Ruby in the Smoke and The Old Curiosity Shop for the BBC and ITV.
Percival also directed the 2013 war drama movie The Book Thief, which starred Emily Watson and Geoffrey Rush.
A release date has not yet been confirmed for the Downton Abbey movie, but we would expect it to arrive in early 2019.
The script has been written by Downton creator Julian Fellowes, who wrote all 52 episodes of the TV series.
