‘The Green Knight’ trailer: Dev Patel stars in new Arthurian legend movie

The first trailer has been unveiled for The Green Knight.

The Personal History of David Copperfield star Dev Patel leads the cast of this epic new medieval fantasy drama.

The Green Knight is an adaptation of the classic Arthurian legend folktale, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, popularised in the famous 14th Century poem.

Described as “a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table,” the movie is directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon).

Patel is playing King Arthur’s nephew, Sir Gawain, alongside Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) as Lady, and Joel Edgerton (The King) as Lord.

The cast also include Sean Harris (The Borgias) as King Arthur, Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk) as Scavenger, Sarita Choudhury (The Hunger Games) as Mother, Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones) as Queen Guinevere, Erin Kellyman (Les Misérables) as Winfred, and Ralph Ineson (Harry Potter) as the Green Knight.

The official synopsis reads: “An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men.

“Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.”

The Green Knight arrives in US cinemas on Friday 30th July, then in the UK on Friday 6th August.
