‘The Nevers’ trailer: Eleanor Tomlinson and James Norton star in Victorian fantasy drama

HBO has released the first trailer for its upcoming epic science-fiction drama The Nevers.

The new TV series comes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon.

The Nevers focuses on a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.

The cast includes Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), James Norton (Grantchester), Olivia Williams (Miss Austen Regrets), Tom Riley (Dark Heart), Pip Torrens (The Crown), Rochelle Neil (Das Boot), and Amy Manson (Atlantis).

The official synopsis reads: “In the last years of Victoria’s reign, London is beset by the “Touched”: people — mostly women — who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities, some charming, some very disturbing.

“Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor.

“They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of… well, pretty much all the forces — to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place.”

HBO programming president Casey Bloys previously commented: “We look forward to meeting the strange, multifaceted characters of The Nevers, to learn their stories, see them in action and share them with our viewers.”

The Nevers will premiere this April in the US on HBO Max, and in the UK on Sky and NOW TV.
