‘The Spanish Princess’ trailer: ‘Downton’s Edith stars in ‘White Queen’ follow-up
A brand new trailer has been released for Starz’s The Spanish Princess.
Based on The Constant Princess and The King’s Curse by historical novelist Philippa Gregory, the upcoming mini-series is the follow-up to The White Queen and The White Princess.
The Spanish Princess will dramatise the story of Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII’s love affair and marriage after the death of his brother Arthur.
Joining Game of Thrones star Charlotte Hope as Catherine is newcomer Ruairi O’Connor is Harry, Prince of Wales, who will become Henry VIII.
Downton Abbey alumni Laura Carmichael and Dame Harriet Walter are playing Harry’s mistrustful aunt, Maggie Pole, and Harry’s steely grandmother.
Showrunners Emma Frost and Matthew Graham commented: “Catherine of Aragon has generally been depicted negatively, as an unwanted and burdensome wife, so this story of her early years as a strong, driven young woman and shrewd political player is a fresh and untold tale.
“We are also especially pleased to be able to bring into the light the inspiring story of people of colour in early Tudor England.”
