Watch the epic first trailer for the new season of ‘The Crown’

Netflix has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming second season of The Crown.

The biographical period drama tells the story of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, played by Wolf Hall actress Claire Foy, alongside former Doctor Who star Matt Smith as Prince Philip.

10 new episodes will be available on Netflix from Friday 8 December, covering the period from 1956 to 1964.

The official synopsis for Season 2 reads: “As Queen Elizabeth’s marriage and empire crumbles around her, she must do what is required to ensure the British monarchy survives.”

The first season debuted in November 2016 and creator/writer Peter Morgan intends for The Crown to run for six seasons and a total of 60 episodes.

Season 3 will introduce an all-new cast as older versions of the main characters.
