We’ve got the first pictures from Jenna Coleman‘s next project!
Best known for her lead role in ITV’s hit period drama Victoria, the 37-year-old English actress will be back on our screens later this year in Wilderness.
Here’s a sneak peek at the upcoming psychological thriller:
The brand new UK series comes from Prime Video and is created by BAFTA-winning writer Marnie Dickens, who’s previously penned episodes of Ripper Street, The Musketeers, and Gold Digger.
“Who doesn’t know someone who’s been cheated on?” says Dickens. “That gut punch on discovery, the trail of paranoia and suspicion it leaves behind, the difficulty of trusting again.
“It’s enough to tip anyone over the edge. And that’s where we meet our heroine, Liv, as she’s lied to over and over by the man she loves. Of course she wants revenge, and I, for one, hope she gets it.”
Leading the cast as Liv is Coleman, fresh from her acclaimed run on stage with Poldark star Aidan Turner in Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons.
Based on the novel by B.E. Jones, Wilderness is described as “a twisted love story, where a dream holiday and a supposedly ‘happily-ever-after’ quickly turn into a living nightmare.”
Coleman is joined by Mr Selfridge actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Liv’s boyfriend Will.
You’ll also recognise from The Haunting of Hill House, Lark Rise to Candleford, and World Without End.
“Wilderness revolves around British couple Liv and Will, who seem to have it all,” reveals the synopsis.
“A rock-solid marriage. A glamorous new life in New York. A golden future stretching ahead of them. Until Liv learns about the affair.
“Heartbreak is swiftly followed by another emotion: fury. Enter the American road trip Liv’s fantasised about since she was little, from Monument Valley to the Grand Canyon, on through Yosemite, ending up with a hedonistic weekend in Las Vegas to blow off the dust and sweat.”
The synopsis continues: “For Will, it’s a chance to make amends, for Liv, it’s a very different prospect—a landscape where accidents happen all the time. The perfect place to get revenge.
“Whilst in the epic American National Parks, the couple bump into Will’s colleague Cara (Ashley Benson), a young American woman with a glittering career and an adoring boyfriend, Garth (Eric Balfour).
“Liv’s best-laid plans are wrecked and, as the foursome go hiking together, Cara and Garth soon find themselves enmeshed in Will and Liv’s lives in a way that will change the course of all their future’s forever.”
When’s the release date?
It’s been officially confirmed that Wilderness “launches on Prime Video globally this autumn.”
So we expect the series to premiere sometime between September-November 2023.
Victoria fans got a disappointing update on the planned fourth season a couple of years ago, when ITV announced that there are currently “no plans” for the show to return.
The channel did offer some hope, however, adding “…that’s not to say we won’t revisit the series with the production team at a later date.”
Dramatising the early life of Queen Victoria, the series launched in 2016, with its third season concluding four years ago.
Next up, Jenna Coleman is developing a new World War II drama series called The War Rooms.
She’ll be playing Joan Bright, the woman who ran Winston Churchill’s secret Whitehall bunker.
All three seasons of Victoria are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
