BAFTA award-winning mini-series Mr Loverman now on Britbox
“Mr Loverman” now available to stream on Britbox.
What is it about?
Based on the novel by Bernardine Evaristo, Mr Loverman centres on Barrington Jedidiah Walker (Lennie James), an Antiguan-born Londoner, and his decades long relationship with his best friend, Morris (Ariyon Bakare). Both men are married with children, both are in the closet, and in reality are in a relationship with each other that dates back to their youth in Antigua. Lennie James and Ariyon Bakare deservedly won BAFTA awards for their respective performances in the series.
At the age of 74, Barry decides that he can no longer live and lie and decides to leave his devoted wife Carmel, played by Sharon D Clarke, a devoutly religious woman who has long suspected that he has been unfaithful to her with several women. Barry’s decision is met with apprehension on the part of Morris, who has heard it all before many times in the past.
The story is told in flashback, detailing the key characters’ perspectives, including that of Carmel, who has endured endless disappointment in her marriage to ‘the most popular man on the island’.
Who is in the cast?
Alongside Lennie James and Ariyon Bakare, Sharon D. Clarke plays the role of Carmel, Tamara Lawrance as Sharlene Whyte as Donna, and Tahj Miles as Daniel.
