‘Last Tango in Halifax’ returning cast confirmed: Who’s back in Season 5?
The BBC has announced more returning cast for the new season of Last Tango in Halifax.
Four new 60-minute episodes of the popular family comedy-drama series began filming in England earlier this autumn.
Last Tango first aired in November 2012 and ran for three seasons, telling the story of former childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia, who reunite in their seventies.
Written by Gentleman Jack creator Sally Wainwright, the upcoming fifth season will see Anne Reid, Derek Jacobi, Nicola Walker and Sarah Lancashire all reprise their roles as Celia, Alan, Gillian and Caroline.
It’s now been confirmed that other returning cast members will include Timothy West as Alan’s brother Ted, Tony Gardner as John, Ronni Ancona as Judith, Josh Bolt as Raff, Dean Smith as William, Louis Greatorex as Lawrence, Paul Copley as Harry, Katherine Rose Morley as Ellie, Felix Johnson as Angus, and Rachel Leskovac as PC Cheryl.
We’ll also see Caroline’s daughter Flora, now aged five, played by Issacah June Zaman Hatzer, and Calamity, now seven years old, played by Tilly Kaye.
Brand new characters will be played by Lu Corfield (Clink), Anna Leong Brophy (EastEnders), Noorul Choudhury (Ackley Bridge), Liam McCheyne (The Bay), Catherine Campion, Sophie McIntosh (Brave New World), Rick S Carr (Ackley Bridge) and Buckso Dhillon-Woolley (Unforgotten).
Executive producer Faith Penhale commented: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to bring the Tango team back together and watch them work their magic.”
She added: “Sally’s scripts are as brilliant as ever – warm and funny and very real – and our exceptional cast make it look easy. I can’t wait to give the fans four more episodes of this very special drama which they rightly love so much.”
Season 5 is expected to air on BBC One in the UK early next year.
