‘The Crown’ casting news: ‘The Night Manager’ star joins as Princess Diana
Netflix has revealed who’ll be playing Princess Diana in the final two seasons of The Crown.
The award-winning period drama series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom launched in 2016, with Claire Foy and Matt Smith leading the original cast.
The pair were replaced as the Queen and Prince Philip in the third season of The Crown last year by Olivia Colman (Broadchurch) and Tobias Menzies (Outlander).
Season 4 features the return of Colman and Menzies, before another all-new cast take over for the fifth and sixth seasons.
Harry Potter actress Imelda Staunton will lead the show’s final years as Queen Elizabeth II.
She’ll star alongside Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip.
It’s now been confirmed that Elizabeth Debicki has joined the latest cast line-up as Princess Diana.
The 29-year-old Australian actress is best known for her roles in The Night Manager, Everest, and Christopher Nolan’s new movie Tenet.
The BBC’s hit series The Night Manager is currently free to watch on Amazon Prime Video!
Elizabeth Debicki will replace Grantchester actress Emma Corrin, who makes her debut as a young Princess Diana in the fourth season.
Debicki commented: “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many.
“It is my privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
The new cast are expected to begin filming the fifth season next summer.
The Crown is up for a number of awards at next month’s Emmys.
Season 5 will premiere on Netflix in 2022, followed by Season 6 in 2023.
The Crown is available on DVD on Amazon.
