The Cadburys: Toby Regbo and Jessica Barden lead new period drama

There’s a new period drama on the horizon, and this one will appeal to those of you who enjoy Cadbury chocolate! 

The Cadburys, a new six-part drama about the family behind the famous chocolate company, is now filming in Birmingham ahead of its arrival in 2027.

The series was previously announced under the working title Chocolate Wars and is inspired by Deborah Cadbury’s book of the same name.

Who is in the cast?

Toby Regbo, Harry Gilby and Jessica Barden lead the cast as members of the Cadbury family. The cast also includes Pearce Quigley as John Cadbury, with Joanna Scanlan, Poppy Gilbert, Felicity Montagu and Ghosts star Mathew Baynton, who plays fellow confectioner Joseph Rowntree.

What is it about?

Set in Birmingham in the 1860s, the drama follows brothers Richard Cadbury (Regbo) and George Cadbury (Gilby) as they take over their family’s struggling cocoa business. Determined to turn things around, the brothers set out to build a successful chocolate company at a time when the industry was still in its infancy.

Their sister Maria Cadbury (Barden) also plays an important part in the family business. However, her life becomes complicated when she falls in love with Francis Fry (Ben Hardy), a member of the family behind Cadbury’s biggest rival.

Written by Chloë Mi Lin Ewart, The Cadburys is produced by Fable Pictures in association with Alfresco Pictures. Tom McKay and Jill Robertson will direct the series.

When will it be released?

The drama will premiere on U in 2027 and will also be shown on U&DRAMA.
