‘Vienna Blood’ Season 2 Episode 2 recap: What happened in ‘The Devil’s Kiss’?

The second season of Vienna Blood continued in the UK tonight!

Based on the best-selling Liebermann novels by Frank Tallis, BBC Two’s period crime drama is adapted by Sherlock writer Steve Thompson.

Vienna Blood is back with three brand new feature-length 90-minute episodes, following the success of the first season.

Season 2 is expected to air in the US on PBS in 2022.

Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game) and Austrian actor Juergen Maurer are reprising their roles as Max Liebermann and Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt.

The pair are joined by Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones), Charlene McKenna (Peaky Blinders), Amelia Bullmore (Gentleman Jack), Lucy Griffiths (True Blood), and Luise von Finckh (Schlechte Zeiten).

Vienna Blood is set in 1900s Vienna – a hot bed of philosophy, science and art, where a clash of cultures and ideas play out in the city’s grand cafes and opera houses.

Here’s a plot recap for ‘The Devil’s Kiss’, which aired on BBC Two at 9pm on Friday 17th December 2021:

1907, Vienna. A beggar-girl finds a mutilated corpse in the slum quarter.

The man’s hand and tongue have been severed. Direktor Strasser warns Oskar that the victim was a Secret Service agent and the investigation is not the concern of the Leopoldstadt police.

But when Oskar receives anonymous messages relating to the murder, he can’t resist delving further.

Max moves the street girl into the Liebermann home, hoping to recover her traumatised memories, while Oskar follows the trail left by his anonymous informant to a rifle and ammunition cache at a private address.

With Strasser’s support, Oskar sees that a political assassination is imminent, but the target is unknown.

A surveillance operation and a sighting of the assassin lead Max and Oskar to uncover a terrorist plot to disrupt a treaty signing at Laxenburg Castle.

Can Max and Oskar defuse the murderous scheme in time to save innocent lives?

Vienna Blood is available on DVD on Amazon.
