The Best 2020 Christmas TV Shows: What Should You Be Watching?

The scheduling for Christmas TV is in, and with us likely to be spending more time indoors than ever over the period, it’s going to be a big year for viewing.

Over the years there have been some huge Christmas specials that have been watched by tens of millions up and down the country, and once again 2020 is going to be awash with them.

Such is the appetite for Christmas TV, bookmakers even offer odds so punters can bet on what they believe will be the top Christmas TV show. WhichBookie have announced their favourites in their Christmas Betting Guide, and here are the number one contenders…

Strictly Christmas Special

Strictly Come Dancing is always a ratings hit and The Christmas Day show always sees families settle around the screen as a number of celebrities go against each other.

The Christmas special is going to be a little different this year as stars haven’t been able to get involved due to the pandemic. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have something special up their sleeve, with viewers having the chance to choose their top 25 dances of all time, as well as a very special group dance from the Strictly professionals.

Doctor Who

Doctor Who is always a big Christmas hit and Jodie Whittaker returns for an episode named Revolution of the Daleks. It will see the Doctor locked in a high-security alien prison, with her buddies Yaz, Ryan and Graham having troubles of their own – Daleks.

Can she save the day and escape prison? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Coronation Street/Eastenders

The soaps are always main contenders for most watched Christmas show and it’ll be the same again as there’s plenty going on in Albert Square and on Coronation Street this year. In Corrie we’re going to see a love triangle, death, heartache and so much more, while in east London, it’s all about a serial killer with so many twists and turns you’ll be left hanging on to the edge of your seat.

Call The Midwife

Call The Midwife is becoming as much of a Christmas tradition as the Queen’s Speech these days and once again it will return to pull in some huge viewing figures.

Former Doctor Who star Peter Davison will guest appear in this year’s episode with the story revolving around him playing the ringmaster of a circus visiting Poplar in East London. Sister Monica Joan is also rushed to hospital in what will prove to be a very dramatic Christmas Day indeed.
