‘Wonka’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ nominated for 2024 BAFTA Film Awards

The nominations for this year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards have been announced!

38 movies will be up for awards at the ceremony next month, which will be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London.

Nearly 8,000 creatives and film industry practitioners have decided which movies deserve recognition, with Oppenheimer nabbing an incredible 13 nominations.

Poor Things has an impressive 11 noms, while British-made films Napoleon, All of Us Strangers, Rye Lane, Barbie and Saltburn appear in multiple categories too.

We’re also very happy to see our favourite movie of 2023, Wonka, up for the Outstanding British Film award!

“It has been an outstanding year for filmmaking as represented by the 38 films nominated today,” commented Anna Higgs, Chair of BAFTA Film Committee.

“They showcase ambitious, creative and hugely impressive voices from independent British debuts to global blockbusters. From complex moral issues through to joyful journeys of self-discovery, they all ultimately explore human connection,” she said.

“Which is why we go to the cinema: to be transported into new worlds, to laugh, cry, to be entertained and to be challenged. The films nominated today deliver all that and more – we hope people up and down the country, and around the world, are inspired to watch them,” Higgs added. “Congratulations to all the nominees.”

Hosted by Doctor Who star David Tennant, the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards will air on Sunday 18 February on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, on BritBox in the US, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and South Africa, and on BBC Australia in Australia.
