‘Paddington’ team’s ‘Wonka’ movie looks absolutely joyous – watch the trailer!

We’ve got another Wonka trailer for you!

From the makers of the Paddington and Harry Potter franchises, the upcoming family film tells the origin story of Willy Wonka in his pre-Chocolate Factory days.

Take a look at the brand new two-and-a-half minute preview here:

This looks like just the kind of big warm hug of a movie we all need right now!

Timothée Chalamet (The King Call Me By Your Name) leads the cast as the iconic character from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The cast also boasts some of the UK’s most talented comic actors in supporting roles, featuring the likes of Olivia Colman (The Crown), Sally Hawkins (The Lost King), Matt Lucas (Doctor Who), and Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean).

And yes, Hugh Grant (Four Weddings and a Funeral) is playing an Oompa Loompa!

Look out too for Jim Carter – aka Mr Carson from Downton Abbey – alongside Mathew Baynton (Ghosts), Tom Davis (Paddington 2), Paterson Joseph (Peep Show), Rakhee Thakrar (Sex Education), and Ellie White (The Other One).

As if the cast list wasn’t enough to win you over, Wonka is helmed by the director of the first two Paddington movies, Paul King, and he’s co-written the script with Ghosts and Horrible Histories writer Simon Farnaby.

The official synopsis reads: “This irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time—proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.”

When’s the release date?

Wonka will be in cinemas and on IMAX from Friday 8 December across the UK and Ireland.

It’ll arrive in the US and Canada on Friday 15 December, and release dates have also been confirmed in Australia and most of Europe for mid-December.
