‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ preview: Ewan McGregor series confirms premiere date
Paramount+ has revealed the first photos from A Gentleman in Moscow!
Based on the internationally best-selling 2016 novel by Amor Towles (The Lincoln Highway, Rules of Civility), the upcoming TV series has been adapted by All Creatures Great and Small writer Ben Vanstone.
A Gentleman in Moscow began filming early last year, helmed by directors Sam Miller (Luther) and Sarah O’Gorman (The Last Kingdom) with the production company behind War & Peace and Peaky Blinders.
Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge) is leading the cast as Count Alexander Rostov.
He’ll be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ahsoka) as glamorous film actress Anna Urbanova, Alexa Goodall (The Devil’s Hour) as the Count’s unlikely young friend Nina, and Fehinti Balogun (Dune) as the Count’s friend Mishka.
Also appearing are Leah Harvey (Foundation), Paul Ready (Motherland), John Heffernan (Becoming Elizabeth), Lyès Salem (Coupez), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (The Witcher), Dee Ahluwalia (Sex Education), and Anastasia Hille (I Hate Suzie), with Johnny Harris (This is England ’86) playing conflicted secret police officer Osip.
“In the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, Count Alexander Rostov finds that his gilded past places him on the wrong side of history,” the official synopsis reveals.
“Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol, threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again.
“As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.”
