‘Call the Midwife’ star compiles 10th anniversary behind the scenes book
Fans can celebrate the tenth anniversary of Call the Midwife with a wonderful new book!
The BBC’s hit period drama series about a group of nurse midwives in the East End of London launched in 2012.
Season 10 aired in the UK earlier this year.
The seven new episodes will premiere on PBS this autumn in the US.
Creator Heidi Thomas’s husband Stephen McGann has played Dr Turner since the start – and now he’s put together a book marking ten years of Call the Midwife!
Celebrating a decade of love, life and laughter, A Labour of Love: Ten Years of Call the Midwife is “a unique and intimate anniversary book.”
It’s described as “the up-close and personal story of Call the Midwife, as told by the cast and crew who made it into the iconic drama it is today.”
The book is packed with behind-the-scenes photographs and exclusive interviews with the team, past and present.
A Labour of Love: Ten Years of Call the Midwife will be published later this year and you can pre-order it on Amazon now.
Stephen McGann commented: “Working on Call The Midwife: A Labour of Love has been like opening a much-loved family album; some of the images have made me smile.”
He added: “Some have made me miss those pictured afresh. But all of them have made me cherish the years we shared, and the stories we made together.”
The show’s official Facebook page wrote: “Here at Call the Midwife, we wanted to do something a bit special to mark our anniversary year – and Stephen’s work for A Labour of Love is all of that and more.
“We’ve been simply overwhelmed by the sheer number of warm interviews given by our our past and present cast. Each one of them has taken time to share unique memories and insights. The love just shines through – and we think you’re going to adore it!”
The official synopsis reads: “A Labour of Love is a moving journey through beloved series and features personal reflections, stills of fan-favorite moments, and anecdotes and insights from co-stars, producers, technical crew, and guests.
“Each chapter, spanning each of the ten years of Call the Midwife — set from 1957–1966 and filmed from 2011–2021 — takes a deep dive into the themes, locations, fun times and technical challenges from each season.
“Author Stephen McGann, who plays the indefatigable Dr. Turner, intersperses personal interviews with key cast and crew about their feelings, thoughts, and memories of filming key moments of the drama.”
Created by Cranford writer Heidi Thomas, Call the Midwife is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.
