‘After Life’ return date confirmed: ‘Downton Abbey’ star returns in Season 3

Netflix has announced when the new season of After Life begins.

Written by and starring comedian Ricky Gervais, the hit British comedy-drama series launched in 2019.

A third season began filming in April, with Penelope Wilton returning as Anne in the six new episodes.

The 75-year-old English actress is best known for playing Lady Isobel in all six seasons of Downton Abbey.

Wilton has also appeared in The Borrowers, Doctor Who, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Calendar Girls.

Netflix revealed this week that Season 3 will premiere on Friday 14th January 2022.

Sadly, the announcement also came with the news that the series is coming to an end.

They commented: “Ricky Gervais, Brandy the dog, and After Life return for one final season on 14 January.”

In the meantime, the first two seasons are available to watch exclusively on Netflix right now.

A new poster has the tagline: “Every end is a new beginning.”

The show’s official synopsis reads: “After Life is the story of Tony, who had an all-too-perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes.

“He decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.”

After Life also features British actor Peter Egan, who played Hugh “Shrimpie” MacClare in Downton Abbey.

Penelope Wilton will reprise her role as Isobel Crawley in the second Downton Abbey film in 2022.

The 75-year-old English actress had a busy summer filming the new Downton movie and the new season of After Life at the same time!

Downton Abbey: A New Era will be released in cinemas next spring, and the trailer was recently unveiled.

The first Downton Abbey movie is available on DVD on Amazon.
