Brilliant news for ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ fans!
The next season of All Creatures Great and Small has started filming!
Based on author James Herriot’s much-loved collection of stories, the period drama series chronicles the heartwarming and humorous adventures of a young country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s.
All Creatures Great and Small premiered on Channel 5 in the UK last autumn and the show began airing on Sunday nights on PBS in the US earlier this year.
The show was a huge hit on British soil, attracting an 18.65% share of the UK audience, making it Channel 5’s highest rating launch for a drama commission ever.
A second season was officially commissioned by Channel 5 last December, comprising six new hour-long episodes and another Christmas special.
Samuel West, who plays Siegfried Farnon, announced on Twitter yesterday that Season 2 has begun shooting in the Yorkshire Dales in England.
The former Mr Selfridge star posted a photo of a clapperboard from the first day’s filming:
The clapperboard confirms that Downton Abbey director Brian Percival, who directed the first season of All Creatures Great and Small, is back helming the brand new episodes.
Executive producer Colin Callender previously commented: “All Creatures Great and Small has struck such a chord with audiences worldwide who were hungry for an entertaining, family-friendly show that provided some respite from the complicated and messy times we live in.”
He added: “We’re very excited to return home to our family at Skeldale House and to transport viewers back to Darrowby for more veterinary antics in the Yorkshire Dales!”
We expect Season 2 to premiere in the UK this autumn on Channel 5, and in the US on PBS in early 2022.
While we wait, fans can take a look behind the scenes with this set tour video!
