‘All Creatures Great and Small’ fans celebrate some VERY exciting news
We’ve got a wonderful update on the future of All Creatures Great and Small!
Based on author James Herriot’s much-loved collection of stories, Channel 5’s hit revival launched in 2020.
The cosy period drama follows the heartwarming and humorous adventures of a young country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s.
Following the success of the first season, a second season premiered in the UK last autumn and averaged a very impressive 4.1 million viewers.
Season 2 is currently airing in the US on Sunday nights on PBS.
All Creatures Great and Small continues to be hugely popular on both sides of the pond, so it’s not a massive surprise to hear that the show has been officially renewed for a third season.
The very welcome news which we weren’t expecting just yet is that PBS and Channel 5 have also ordered a fourth season too!
With another six episodes in each season, and Christmas specials for 2022 and 2023 also confirmed, that’s at least 14 more episodes to look forward to.
Channel 5’s Sebastian Cardwell commented: “It is clear that our viewers adore James Herriot’s adventures in Darrowby and so do we at Channel 5. I am looking forward to us all being reunited with the Skeldale House family when series three arrives on our screens this year.”

But most of all we want to thank the audience who have so fully embraced the new series. It is their vocal and loyal support that has resulted in this ongoing commitment to the series and we couldn’t be more delighted.
He added: “It is a joy to produce the show but an even bigger joy to know that there is an audience all over the world hungry to revisit the world of Darrowby in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and to spend more time with the wonderful inhabitants of Skeldale House.”
Downton Abbey director Brian Percival will begin filming the third season of All Creatures Great and Small this spring on location in Yorkshire, England.
Season 3 is expected to premiere in the UK this autumn on Channel 5, ahead of its US broadcast on PBS in early 2023.
