Amazon Prime Video hints at possible ‘Sanditon’ Season 2 plans!

Some unexpected and exciting Sanditon news came from Amazon Prime in the UK this week.

Based on Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel, the period drama began in the UK last August and the series aired in the US on PBS earlier this year.

Sadly, the ratings were too low in the UK for ITV to commission more episodes and PBS announced in February that they had “no plans for another season.”

Sanditon fans haven’t given up showing an overwhelming amount of love for the show though.

A petition demanding a second season has now reached over 60,000 signatures and the production team have received a huge volume of letters and cards from loyal viewers.

Despite the fan love, there has still been no news about a second season from ITV or PBS.

In a positive development, however, the official UK Twitter account for Amazon Prime Video tweeted their support for the show on Wednesday.

They wrote: “#SaveSanditon Squad, we hear you and we’re doing what we can. Please could you retweet this to let us know how many of you there are so we can make a case for a new season?”

This certainly suggests that Amazon Prime is considering the possibility of funding a second season!

Sanditon writer Andrew Davies had previously hinted that a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon could continue the show independently from ITV and PBS.

He reassured fans with this hopeful message: “Hang on in there. Keep giving the show all your love because we’d love to give you lots more of it.”
