Starz has released a trailer for its upcoming historical drama Becoming Elizabeth.
First announced back in 2020, the brand new eight-part drama comes from playwright and TV screenwriter Anya Reiss.
28-year-old German actress Alicia von Rittberg leads the cast as the young Elizabeth Tudor, daughter of King Henry VIII.
She’s joined by a great line-up of familiar faces, including Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife) as Henry’s widow Catherine Parr, Tom Cullen (Downton Abbey) as Thomas Seymour, Romola Garai (The Hour) as Henry’s eldest child Mary, and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Lady Jane Grey.
The show started filming a year ago and Starz released this fun video teasing what to expect:

The official synopsis for Becoming Elizabeth reads: “Long before she ascended the throne, young Elizabeth Tudor was an orphaned teenager who became embroiled in the political and sexual politics of the English court. With no clear heir, the death of King Henry VIII sets into motion a dangerous scramble for power.
“His surviving children find themselves pawns in a game between the great families of England and the powers of Europe who vie for control of the country.
“The series will depict Elizabeth’s struggles to control her own destiny and take real power as the men around her attempt to claim her sovereignty.”
