‘Britannia’ first look pics: Historical fantasy drama returns for Season 2
Sky has released the first promotional photos for the second season of Britannia.
The British historical fantasy series launched in 2018, starring David Morrissey, Kelly Reilly, Zoë Wanamaker and Mackenzie Crook.
Set in 43AD, the first season of Britannia followed the Roman army as they returned to crush the Celtic heart of Britannia, a mysterious land led by warrior women and powerful Druids who claim to channel the powerful forces of the underworld.
Season 2 began filming last summer and will continue to explore the life of the Celts and Druids now living under Roman rule.
Here’s the first look at Pirates of the Caribbean actor Mackenzie Crook playing Harka, the twin brother of his Season 1 character Veran:
Harka is described as ‘The Dead Man’ and the two brothers are set to embark on an epic battle of wills.
The Season 2 synopsis teases: “In a world where the gods hold power over everyone, the question is how much freedom does anyone have over their own actions? But while the gods don’t deal, men do. The Dead Man says ‘hello’.”
We also have the first photo of newcomer Eleanor Worthington-Cox, who’s playing Cait:
Cameron Roach, commissioning editor for drama at Sky, previously commented: “The first series of Britannia brought [writer Jez Butterworth]’s unique vision to life. The series is a tale of clashing faith systems, torn apart families, mystic men and fearsome queens, all told with humour, heart, epic drama and violence.”
A co-production between Sky and Amazon Prime Video, Britannia was the biggest Sky original production launch on Sky Atlantic since the first season of Fortitude and has been sold in 206 territories worldwide.
Season 2 will premiere in the UK later this year on Sky Atlantic and TV streaming service NOW TV.
Season 1 is available to watch now on Amazon Prime.
