BritBox has shared the first images from The Cadburys, an upcoming period drama telling the story of the family behind one of Britain’s most famous chocolate-making dynasties.
The six-part series, previously announced under the working title Chocolate Wars, is set in 1860s Birmingham and is inspired by Deborah Cadbury’s book Chocolate Wars. Filming has now concluded in Birmingham ahead of the drama’s 2027 premiere.
The new images introduce Toby Regbo as Richard Cadbury, Harry Gilby as his brother George and Jessica Barden as their sister Maria.

Building the Cadbury empire
When the story begins, chocolate as we know it does not yet exist and Richard and George have inherited responsibility for their family’s struggling cocoa business.
The very different brothers share the ambition and ingenuity needed to transform its fortunes. George becomes obsessed with developing solid eating cocoa, while Richard finds romance with Elizabeth Adlington, played by Poppy Gilbert.
Maria, meanwhile, faces a more complicated romantic dilemma. She falls for Francis Fry (Ben Hardy), a member of the family behind one of Cadbury’s biggest commercial rivals, leaving her torn between love and loyalty.
