‘Call the Midwife’ stars will judge short story writing competition for charity
Two of our favourite Call the Midwife cast members have teamed up with Ovacome.
Jenny Agutter and Stephen McGann have been announced as the judges for a new short story writing competition!
The official Facebook page for Call the Midwife revealed the details this week:
“We’re delighted to tell you that the UK ovarian cancer support charity @ovacome is currently hosting its second short story writing competition… and this year’s judges have a very Call the Midwife flavour!
“2021’s competition will be judged by none other than Jenny Agutter (Sr Julienne) and Stephen McGann (Dr Turner)!”
They continued: “The competition is looking for entries based on the theme of ‘Connected’ – and it is open to you all. As well as having the kudos of your story being chosen by the two actors, the winner will receive a £250 prize!!
“But hurry – the competition closes at 5pm, 30 September 2021, so get writing!
“The winner and runner up will be announced mid December 2021. The prize for the runner up is a £50 Waterstones book voucher. Each submission costs £5, with all proceeds going towards Ovacome’s ovarian cancer support services.
“Jenny is a patron of Ovacome, and so this competition is very close to her heart.
“Entries, based on the theme ‘Connected’, should be no longer than 2,000 words.”
Jenny Agutter commented: “It is of course what Ovacome is doing all the time — sharing and reaching out.”
Stephen McGann added: “I couldn’t think of a better reason for putting pen to paper than for this worthy and important cause.”
You can find full details of the competition and how to enter on Ovacome’s website here.
Ovacome have said: “Creative writing promotes happiness and mental wellbeing, so this is a great opportunity to express yourself, whether you are an experienced writer or have never written a story before. We can’t wait to read your inspiring and creative stories!”
