‘Mamma Mia’ star is filming new Irish period drama ‘Cry from the Sea’
Dominic Cooper has revealed his next movie role!
Best known for playing Sky in Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the 45-year-old English actor most recently starred in ’80s heist drama The Gold for the BBC.
Cooper is currently filming Irish period drama Cry from the Sea.
He’ll be joined in the cast by Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method, Belle), Aidan Quinn (Elementary), and Sarah Bolger (Mayans MC).
Set in the aftermath of World War I and the Irish Civil War, the upcoming film is expected to complete its shoot in Donegal, Ireland next month.
Cry from the Sea tells the story of Seamus Óg Mac Grianna (Cooper), an Irish lighthouse keeper who has created a life of isolation and ritual in penance for a tragedy he feels he should have prevented.
Seamus’s only company is Maire (Sarah Bolger), his housekeeper and protector, who enables him to remain closed off from the world while quietly waiting for him to see her.
His meticulously structured world begins to crack when he meets Edith (Gadon), an outspoken American war widow whose quest for closure ignites something in Seamus that will forever change them all.
Set for release in 2024, the movie is being directed by Vic Sarin (Cold Comfort) from a script by Ciaran Creagh (Parked).
Next up for Dominic Cooper is My Lady Jane, a new British television series for Amazon Prime Video, set in 16th century England.
A “historical reimagining” of the life of Lady Jane Grey, great-granddaughter of Henry VII, the show sees Cooper play Lord Seymour.
He’ll be joined in the cast by Anna Chancellor (Downton Abbey), Rob Brydon (Gavin and Stacey), and Jim Broadbent (Bridget Jones).
Cooper’s BBC drama The Gold was recently added to Paramount+ for viewers in the US!
Mamma Mia! is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
