‘Doctor Who’ travels to 19th century China in Easter special – watch the trailer!

The BBC has released an epic trailer for the next instalment of Doctor Who.

Following Jodie Whitaker’s third season of the long-running time-travel drama last year, the Broadchurch star is back as the Thirteenth Doctor this month.

‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ is the second of three extended specials airing in 2022, leading up to her final scenes later in the year.

Whitaker will regenerate into the as-yet-unknown actor who’ll be playing the new Doctor in a feature-length adventure that will also mark the 100th anniversary of the BBC this autumn.

Described as “a swashbuckling special adventure,” the Easter special finds the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) going “face to fin” with a classic Doctor Who monster: the Sea Devils.

The official synopsis for ‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ teases: “Why has legendary pirate queen Madam Ching come searching for a lost treasure? What terrifying forces lurk beneath the oceans of the nineteenth century? And did Yaz really have to dress Dan up as a pirate?”

One of show’s iconic villains, the Sea Devils first appeared just over 50 years ago in a serial starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor.

They were last seen in 1984’s ‘Warriors of the Deep’, when the Doctor was played by All Creatures Great and Small star Peter Davison.

‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ airs on Sunday 17th April in the UK on BBC One and in the US on BBC America.
