‘Gentleman Jack’ finally confirms return date – watch the Season 2 trailer!

The BBC has announced when the second season of Gentleman Jack will begin.

Based on the real life diaries of Anne Lister, the hit period drama is set in Halifax, West Yorkshire in the 1830’s.

It’s been a whole three years since Gentleman Jack first premiered!

Sadly, despite swiftly the series being swiftly renewed for another season back in 2019, production was heavily delayed by the coronavirus pandemic and filming only concluded last year.

Fortunately, the wait is almost over!

Suranne Jones (Vigil) and Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders) will return as Anne Lister and Ann Walker very soon.

The upcoming eight hour-long episodes will air weekly on BBC One at 9pm on Sunday nights from 10th April.

Fans can also watch online on BBC iPlayer, where the complete first season is already available.

Season 2 will then premiere in the US on HBO and HBO Max just two weeks later on Monday 25th April.

Alongside Jones and Rundle are returning cast members Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones) as Marian Lister, Gemma Jones (Last Tango in Halifax) as Aunt Anne Lister, and Timothy West (EastEnders) as Jeremy Lister.

Joining the cast this season is The Larkins star Joanna Scanlan as Anne Lister’s outrageous former lover, Isabella ‘Tib’ Norcliffe.

The official synopsis for the second season reads: “Yorkshire, 1834. All eyes are on Anne Lister and Ann Walker as they set up home together at Shibden Hall as wife and wife, determined to combine their estates and become a power couple.

“Anne Lister’s entrepreneurial spirit frightens the locals as much as her unconventional love life and, with Halifax on the brink of revolution, her refusal to keep a low profile becomes provocative and dangerous.”

Gentleman Jack writer Sally Wainwright is also working on the final season of Happy Valley, which is busy filming in Yorkshire right now, before she begins writing the sixth season of Last Tango in Halifax.

She’s also got a brand new 18th Century adventure series for Disney+ coming up, called The Ballad of Renegade Nell.

Gentleman Jack is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
