‘Dodger’ confirms release date for Easter special ‘The Bad Egg’
Hit children’s series Dodger returns soon with a one-off special!
Set in the world of Oliver Twist before the events of Charles Dickens’ classic novel, the CBBC comedy-drama premiered in early 2022.
The fun ten-part first season followed the exploits of the infamous pickpocket, the Artful Dodger and his gang as they find ingenious ways to survive the grim and exploitative conditions of early Victorian London in the 1830s.
Following the show’s successful debut, a further three Dodger episodes swiftly began filming last summer in Bristol.
The first two of these specials – ‘Train’ and ‘Christmas’ – aired early in the 2022 festive season.
It’s now been revealed that the third and final Dodger special will air this Easter.
When’s the release date?
‘The Bad Egg’ will be streaming on BBC iPlayer from Friday 7th April.
It’ll air on the CBBC channel at 5:30pm later that day.
Billy Jenkins (The Crown) returns as Dodger, with Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) reprising his role as Fagin.
The brand new special sees Dodger and Tom caught red handed in The National Gallery trying to relieve it of a priceless painted ostrich egg.
After the heist goes wrong, it looks like the game is finally up and Dodger must face his harshest punishment yet – school! Sent to the upper crust St Albion’s College, he must unravel the mystery of a secret society.
We’re told to expect “a harsh headmaster, a high-speed row and one of Dodger’s narrowest squeaks yet.”
There’s no news yet on another full season of Dodger unfortunately.
But it was last year’s most watched CBBC commissioned programme, so we expect to hear an announcement soon.
In the meantime, Disney+ are busy filming their own new TV series about the Artful Dodger.
Set in Australia in the 1850s, the show is set to explore the adult double life of Charles Dickens’ famous prince of thieves, “now a surgeon who can’t shake his predilection for crime.”
The Artful Dodger is filming in Australia now, starring Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, Game of Thrones) as the title character, alongside David Thewlis (Enola Holmes 2, Harry Potter) as Fagin.
Every episode of Dodger is available to watch on BBC iPlayer right now.
