Watch the brand new trailer for ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’

A full trailer has been unveiled for the second Downton Abbey movie.

Based on ITV’s hit period drama series, the first Downton film was a huge success back in 2019, grossing over $237 million around the world.

The much-anticipated sequel was originally due in cinemas for Christmas 2021, but the release was sadly pushed back until this spring.

Last month came the disappointing news that the movie was to be delayed once more, with a new release date announced.

Fortunately, it looks like this date is going to stick, with the arrival of a brand new trailer and a gorgeous poster:

The promotional artwork includes all the returning main Downton cast members, alongside newcomers Hugh Dancy (Hannibal), Laura Haddock (Da Vinci’s Demons), and Dominic West (The Crown).

We can’t help but spot that the character missing from the previous trailer is also still notably absent on this poster, however.

Set in 1928, the plot of Downton Abbey: A New Era sees our beloved characters embark on a lavish trip to the South of France where they must uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.

We’re also promised a wedding, and plenty of drama when a Hollywood film crew arrive at the Abbey!

Following the previous teaser released last autumn, you can watch the new official trailer here, featuring two and a half minutes of very exciting footage:

Downton Abbey: A New Era will now be out in UK cinemas from Friday 29th April.

It’ll then follow into US theatres the following month on Friday 20th May.

American viewers who don’t feel ready to go back to the cinema just yet will be able to see the film in the comfort and safety of their own home just 45 days later on NBC’s streaming service Peacock.
