HBO has released a dramatic new two-minute trailer for The Gilded Age!
The long-awaited new period drama series from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes is set in New York at the end of the 19th century.
The Gilded Age was first announced back in 2018 with a launch planned for 2019 on NBC, but the show then moved to HBO, before it was hit by further delays due to the pandemic.
However, it’s finally arriving on our TV screens next month!
Upon its original announcement, The Gilded Age was described by NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke as a “delicious new take on both the emerging rich and the working class who were intricately entwined in opulent New York in 1882.”
She added: “Julian Fellowes has the peerless ability to create complex characters and relationships set against a fantastic backdrop … It’s an addictive new universe of fabulous people with the same signature style, wit and emotional resonance for which Julian is famous.”
Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia), Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City), and Carrie Coon (The Leftovers) are leading the cast.
They’re joined by Morgan Spector (Boardwalk Empire), Harry Richardson (Poldark), Denée Benton (Hamilton), Louisa Jacobson, Taissa Farmiga, Blake Ritson (Da Vinci’s Demons), Simon Jones (Downton Abbey), Thomas Cocquerel, Jack Gilpin, Nathan Lane (The Producers), and Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love).
The Gilded Age premieres in the US on Monday 24th January 2022 on HBO and HBO Max.
In the UK, it starts on Tuesday 25th January 2022 on Sky Atlantic and Now TV.
A teaser trailer for The Gilded Age was unveiled last month and we now have a more in-depth look at what we can expect from the series.
Watch the new trailer:
The official synopsis reads: “The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, of great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems, and of huge fortunes made and lost.
“Against the backdrop of this transformation, HBO’s The Gilded Age begins in 1882 with young Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) moving from rural Pennsylvania to New York City after the death of her father to live with her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon).
“Accompanied by Peggy Scott (Denée Benton), an aspiring writer seeking a fresh start, Marian inadvertently becomes enmeshed in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon).
“Exposed to a world on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path?”
2022 is set to be an exciting year for Downton fans, with Downton Abbey: A New Era also set to arrive in a few months’ time.
