‘Downton Abbey’ sequel announces four brand new cast members
With filming underway on Downton Abbey 2, some new cast details have been revealed.
The much-anticipated sequel to the first Downton movie officially began filming in England last month.
Based on ITV’s hit period drama series, the original Downton Abbey film was a massive hit in the UK and around the world in 2019.
Overcoming the expected delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, the second Downton movie is now set for release later this year!
Joining “the entire Downton cast” in the sequel will be four new main characters.
While their roles haven’t yet been confirmed, we can tell you who the actors are.
First up we have Hugh Dancy, who starred as criminal profiler Will Graham in NBC’s Hannibal television series from 2013 until 2015.
The 45-year-old English actor has also appeared in David Copperfield, Daniel Deronda, The Jane Austen Book Club, Homeland, and Elizabeth I.
He’ll be joined by 35-year-old London-born actress Laura Haddock.
She’s best known for her roles in Da Vinci’s Demons, The Musketeers, Dancing on the Edge, Upstairs Downstairs, Ripper Street, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Inbetweeners Movie.
Haddock is married to Peaky Blinders actor Sam Claflin in real life!
Next up is French star of film, television and stage, Nathalie Baye.
The 72-year-old actress has appeared in more than 80 movies, including Catch Me If You Can, Tell No One, and The Assistant.
Most recently, Baye appeared in Netflix’s crime drama series Criminal.
Finally, we have English actor Dominic West joining the Downton cast!
The 51-year-old star shot to fame as Jimmy McNulty in HBO’s The Wire.
Since then, he’s appeared in The Affair, The Hour, Appropriate Adult, Les Misérables, Pride, Chicago, and Colette.
Downton Abbey 2 will arrive in cinemas on Wednesday 22nd December.
Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski commented: “There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans.”
Downton star Lily James returned to our TV screens last night in the BBC’s acclaimed new adaptation of The Pursuit of Love, alongside Downton newcomer Dominic West.
However, we’re yet to find out if Lady Rose will be back in Downton Abbey 2!
