‘Downton Abbey’ movie will premiere on PBS this Christmas
An exciting Christmas treat has been announced for Downton fans in America!
While we await the arrival of Downton Abbey: A New Era, it’s been announced that the first film will receive its TV premiere on PBS this festive season.
Based on ITV’s hit period drama series, the Downton movie was released in 2019, going on to top the box office in both the UK and the US.
Watch the trailer:
Written by Downton creator Julian Fellowes, the film reunited nearly all the main cast from the television show.
The official synopsis reads: “Set in 1927, the beloved Crawleys headed by the 7th Earl of Grantham and their intrepid staff prepare for the most important moment of their lives, a royal visit from King George V (Simon Jones) and Queen Mary (Geraldine James).
“As the Royal staff descend on Downton Abbey, tensions mount unleashing scandal, romance and intrigue throughout the household – events that leave the future of Downton hanging in the balance.
“Meanwhile, the arrival in the village of a man claiming to be the Royal security assessor raises certain suspicions, but with time short the race is on to reveal the true intentions of this mysterious figure.”
The Downton Abbey movie will air at 7/6c on Saturday 25th December on PBS Masterpiece.
If you miss it on Christmas Day, it’ll then be repeated at 9/8c on Sunday 2nd January (check your local listings).
UK fans can also see the movie on TV for the first time this festive season.
The film is airing at 8.30pm on Saturday 1st January on ITV.
Downton Abbey: A New Era is set to arrive in cinemas around the world next spring, and the first trailer was unveiled last month.
The movie once again reunites all our favourite characters, although it looks like one surprise absence will take some explaining!
A trailer has also just been released for Julian Fellowes’ long-awaited new period drama The Gilded Age.
Set in New York at the end of the 19th century, the upcoming TV series premieres on our screens very soon.
Downton Abbey: The Complete Collection box set is available on DVD on Amazon.
