‘Dracula’ first look: New pics from ‘Sherlock’ writers’ BBC period drama
The first photos of Claes Bang as the new Count Dracula have been revealed!
The Danish actor is playing Dracula in the BBC and Netflix’s upcoming period drama series.
Based on Bram Stoker’s classic Gothic novel, Dracula began filming this spring in Slovakia.
The three 90-minute episodes will be set in Transylvania in 1897 as the blood-drinking Count draws his plans against Victorian London.
Dracula has been written by Sherlock co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
Discussing the casting of Borgen actor Claes Bang, the pair previously commented: “It was one of those moments – who else could it be than Claes! He has it all. Brilliant, gorgeous, charismatic, lethal. Tall, dark and gruesome all at once. Hell has a new boss.”
More cast members have also just been announced, with Lyndsey Marshal (Trauma), Chanel Cresswell (The Bay), Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game), Lydia West (Years & Years), Paul Brennen (Happy Valley), Sarah Niles (Catastrophe), Sofia Oxenham (Poldark), John McCrea (God’s Own Country), Phil Dunster (Humans) and Millicent Wong joining the series.
The previously confirmed cast includes Joanna Scanlan (No Offence), Dolly Wells (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), John Heffernan (The Crown), Morfydd Clark (Patrick Melrose), Lujza Richter (Phantom Thread), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits), Catherine Schell (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service), Youssef Kerkour (Jack Ryan) and Clive Russell (Game of Thrones).
Three former Sherlock actors – Mark Gatiss, Jonathan Aris and Sacha Dhawan – will be appearing too.
Dracula is expected to premiere in late 2019 or early 2020 on BBC One in the UK and on Netflix in the rest of the world.
