A first teaser for Empire of Light has been unveiled.
Set in an English seaside town in the early 1980s, Empire of Light is described as “a powerful and poignant story about human connection and the magic of cinema.”
Not much else is known about the plot right now, but the footage in the trailer suggests this could be something really emotional and heart-warming.
Leading the cast are Olivia Colman (The Crown) and Colin Firth (Pride & Prejudice).
The pair previously worked together in recent period drama movie Mothering Sunday.
You can watch the trailer for that movie here:
Colman and Firth be joined in Empire of Light by Toby Jones (Detectorists), Crystal Clarke (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain), Tom Brooke (Sherlock), Tanya Moodie (A Discovery of Witches), Hannah Onslow (Ridley Road), and Micheal Ward (Small Axe).
Director and writer Sam Mendes previously commented: “This project is very close to my heart, and I couldn’t be more delighted that it has found its ideal home [at Searchlight Pictures].”
