‘Ghosts’ is back: Season 4 release date confirmed

It’s been announced when the next season of Ghosts starts on BBC One.

Yes, we know it’s not really a period drama, but we love this show!

From the creators and stars of Horrible Histories, the BBC’s hit comedy series follows a cash-strapped young couple who inherit a rickety country mansion, only to find it teeming with needy ghosts from various different points in history.

Ghosts launched in 2019 and six brand new episodes began filming earlier this year.

The official synopsis reads: “When we return for Season 4, Button House is open for business, well, the gatehouse is. Can Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) make a success of the humble B&B or will the interfering ghosts once again scupper their plans?”

All the regular cast members are back reprising their (multiple) roles, including Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Lolly Adefope, and Katy Wix.

Season 4 will premiere in the UK at 8.50pm on Friday 23rd September on BBC One, with new episodes airing weekly.

It’ll also be streaming on demand on BBC iPlayer.

We’ll let you know the US release date as soon as it’s revealed.

Discussing what makes the show so popular, Alison actress Charlotte Ritchie said in this interview: “For a start, the writing is really good. And it’s ultimately very, very full of heart.”

The former Call the Midwife star explained: The place it comes from is really loving, and people can feel that. Everyone I speak to says it makes them feel really warm. What more could you want?”

In the opening episode of the new season, Mike and Alison welcome the first guests to their new bijoux B&B, determined to get a glowing review, whatever the cost.

Meanwhile, Mary reveals she has never had a holiday, so Pat teaches her the joys and pitfalls of a week on the Costa Del Sol.

The Plaguers have taken to idolising Thomas, since spotting Alison’s fetching portrait of him in the basement. Thomas naturally assumes their obsession stems from a love of his poetry – much to the annoyance of the Captain, who challenges them to endure a recital.

Ghosts is available on DVD on Amazon.
