‘Father Brown’ future announced: Will it be back for Season 10?

We can finally reveal if there’s going to be another season of Father Brown!

Based on the stories by GK Chesterton, BBC One’s period crime drama follows the titular clerical sleuth’s mystery-solving skills in the Cotswolds during the early 1950s.

Father Brown returned for a ninth season in January, two whole years after its previous run, after filming hit significant delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Season 9 concluded with a special finale, celebrating the show’s 100th episode!

Since then, however, there had been no news on whether this was to be the last ever episode of Father Brown, or if our favourite crime-solving priest would be back for more episodes.

Well, we can now confirm that Harry Potter star Mark Williams will indeed be reprising his role in a tenth season!

That’s not the only exciting update, as it’s been announced that filming is currently underway in England.

Actor John Burton, who plays Sergeant Goodfellow, recently told fans on Twitter that Season 10 began shooting in mid-May.

He later added: “Well, that’s the first week done and dusted on series 10 of Father Brown. 14 more weeks to go and we’ll have 10 fabulous episodes ‘in the can’ for you x”

So that’s confirmation that the new season will once again consist of ten episodes.

With production set to wrap later this summer, we expect that Season 10 will be ready to premiere in its usual January slot at the start of 2023.

We’re very happy to hear there won’t be a two-year wait between seasons this time!

The show is set to debut once again on BBC One in the UK and on BritBox in the US.

Carla-Maria Lawson, the BBC’s Head of Daytime previously commented: “Father Brown’s canny observations and remarkable powers of sleuthing continue to thrill not only BBC daytime viewers but audiences around the world, who find the themes in the series just as relevant today as they were in GK Chesterton’s time.”

A new Father Brown spin-off series, Sister Boniface Mysteries, also began earlier this year.

Set in the 1960s, the show follows the character of Sister Boniface, played by Lorna Watson (Watson & Oliver).

Sister Boniface Mysteries has been such a hit for BritBox that it’s already been renewed for a second season!

Season 2 will premiere in the US in 2023 exclusively on BritBox, then airing in the UK on the Drama channel.

Father Brown is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
