The BBC has announced when the next season of Father Brown starts!

Based on the stories by GK ChestertonFather Brown has been a daytime hit on BBC One for over a decade, airing worldwide in over 232 territories.

An eleventh run of the period crime drama began filming in the Cotswalds earlier this year.

“It’s an honour to be returning to Father Brown for an eleventh series of warmth, drama and humour, as well as sleuthing with my partners in crime solving,” commented actor Mark Williams, who plays the show’s titular crime-busting priest.

Williams is joined once again in the 10 new episodes by John Burton as Sergeant Daniel Goodfellow, Ruby-May Martinwood as Brenda Palmer, Tom Chambers as Chief Inspector Sullivan, and Claudie Blakley as Mrs. Isobel Devine.

When’s the release date?

Season 11 launches in the UK at 1.45pm on Friday 5 January 2024 on BBC One with ‘The Kembleston Olimpicks’, airing weekly on Friday lunchtimes through to March.

All ten episodes will also be streaming on BBC iPlayer as a box set.

Over in the US, the new season is expected to arrive on BritBox in early 2024.

The new season’s opening story sees Father Brown investigate when rivalries escalate to murderous heights at the Kembleston Olimpicks.

Mrs Devine (Claudie Blakley) is shocked when her son Eddie (Barney Wilkinson) returns to Kembleford. She is determined to keep her new relationship with Chief Inspector Sullivan (Tom Chambers) a secret from everyone, although Father Brown (Mark Williams) and Brenda (Ruby-May Martinwood) know exactly what’s going on!

Soon the competitive nature of the games starts to show, with disgruntled gardener Patty Frewin (Erin Shanager) blaming Dr Geoffrey Fleming (Toby Williams) for her withdrawal from the competition, while Shirley Fraser (Amy Trigg) is also unusually edgy around the doctor. Elsewhere, Geoffrey disqualifies his own brother Brian (Kelvin Fletcher), much to the delight of Hambleston captain, William Redshaw (Esh Alladi).

When Hambleston competitor Ursula Fanshaw (Barbara D’Alterio) is poisoned during the spinach eating contest, it soon transpires that Geoffrey was the intended target. Can Father Brown identify the killer before they strike again?

Also returning soon is Sister Boniface Mysteries!

Following a Christmas special this month, the Father Brown spin-off series will be back with a third season next year.
