‘Sister Boniface Mysteries’ preview: Christmas special release date confirmed
Sister Boniface Mysteries is back with a one-off special this festive season!
The upcoming feature-length mystery will be the first ever Christmas episode for the hit Father Brown spin-off series.
Set in the 1960s, the British period crime drama follows the crime-solving adventures of nun, moped rider, wine maker and part-time forensic scientist, Sister Boniface.
We’ve got a sneak peek at returning stars Lorna Watson and Max Brown as the show’s titular heroine and DI Sam Gillespie:
A new season of Sister Boniface Mysteries began filming this summer in the Cotswolds.
Featuring some new guest stars, Season 3 is expected to arrive on BritBox in early 2024.
Before then, this 90-minute Christmas special is set during the ‘Big Freeze’ in the winter of 1962-1963; the worst winter on record.
We find Sister Boniface and her fellow travelers stranded in a train after a frozen coupling snaps, leaving the last carriages stranded in snow.
Pictured below is Bethany Milner as Carol Cooper, with Max Brown’s DI Sam Gillespie:
“When The Star of the Orient, a precious jewel, is stolen from its safe and a passenger is discovered murdered, Sister Boniface must use her exceptional detection skills to decide who among the suspects is responsible,” the official synopsis tells us.
“But with little signs of rescue and a failing generator, passengers must also contend with a more pressing issue – freezing to death.”
When’s the release date?
The Christmas special will premiere on Tuesday 12 December exclusively on BritBox, apart from in the UK where it’ll air on the Drama channel on a date yet to be confirmed.
In the meantime, you can catch up on the first two seasons of Sister Boniface Mysteries, streaming on BritBox now!
Also reprising his role is Jerry Iwu as DS Felix Livingstone, here seen with Ami Metcalf as WPC Peggy Button:
Other highlights on BritBox in December include a brand new Vera episode, a festive special from Death in Paradise spin-off Beyond Paradise, Mark Gatiss’s latest Christmas ghost story, and Archie, ITV’s much-anticipated drama about actor Cary Grant.
Father Brown will be returning in the new year too with an eleventh season, so that’s something to look forward to in January!
Sister Boniface Mysteries is available to watch on BritBox.
