‘Sister Boniface Mysteries’ reveals Season 3 hints and guest cast

We’ve got more details on the new season of Sister Boniface Mysteries!

A third run of the Father Brown spin-off is currently filming in the Cotswolds in England.

Set in the 1960s, the British murder-mystery drama follows the crime-solving adventures of nun, moped rider, wine maker and part-time forensic scientist, Sister Boniface.

Season 2 has become 2023’s highest rated show so far on UKTV’s Drama channel, and the show is a hit on BritBox too.

“Right from her first appearance on screen alongside Father Brown, the character of Sister Boniface has delighted fans,” commented BritBox boss Reemah Sakaan.

Sister Boniface Mysteries has gone from strength to strength, building an international fanbase on BritBox in our markets, and being the gold standard for charming British crime drama,” she said.

As a sign of BritBox and UKTV’s confidence in the show, they’ve confirmed that this Christmas we’ll be getting the first ever Sister Boniface Mysteries festive special!

The Christmas episode will find Britain in the grips of the ‘Big Freeze’ – the worst winter on record.

“Sister Boniface and her fellow travellers are stranded in a train after a frozen coupling snaps, leaving the last carriages stranded in snow,” the official synopsis reveals.

“When The Star of the Orient, a precious jewel, is stolen from its safe and a passenger is discovered murdered, Sister Boniface must use her exceptional detection skills to decide who among the suspects is responsible.

“But with little signs of rescue and a failing generator, passengers must also contend with a more pressing issue – freezing to death.”

Alongside the return of Lorna Watson as Sister Boniface, regular cast members Max Brown, Jerry Iwu, and Ami Metcalf will also be reprising their roles as DI Sam Gillespie, DS Felix Livingstone, and WPC Peggy Button.

Guest stars in Season 3 will include Timothy West, who you’ll recognise from Last Tango in Halifax, Gentleman Jack, and EastEnders.

He’ll also be familiar from his wonderful Channel 4 series Great Canal Journeys, which he hosted with his wife Prunella Scales.

Rupert Vansittart (Game of Thrones, Heartbeat) and Siobhan Redmond (Two Doors Down, Holby City) will also be guest starring in the new episodes of Sister Boniface Mysteries.

Mysteries in Season 3 will feature a famous organist murdered mid-tune in the chapel, a mysterious kidnapping at Great Slaughter’s first sci-fi convention, and a ‘dead cert’ (literally) at the screen tests for the new ‘Agent Best’.

Meanwhile, Felix will face a challenge of his own when his fiancée Victoria arrives from Bermuda with an ultimatum which could change everything.

When’s the release date?

Sister Boniface Mysteries returns this Christmas with a feature-length festive special on the Drama channel in the UK, and on BritBox in the US, South Africa, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Season 3 is expected to premiere in early 2024.

An eleventh season of Father Brown is also on the way too.
